Catlin Reappointed and Reelected Vice-President to Colorado River District
Montrose, Colorado – On January 17, 2024, the Montrose County Board of Commissioners reappointed Marc Catlin to the Colorado River Water Conservation Board, better known as the Colorado River District. This is the fourth consecutive term Catlin has been appointed to the River District.
The River District Board of Directors held its January elections in which Catlin was re-elected Vice-President of the organization. This is the second time, in just as many years, that Marc Catlin has been selected Vice-President by his peers. The election comes a few weeks after the historic signing of the Shoshone Water Right Preservation Project. The signing by the Colorado River District and Xcel Energy for the purchase and sale of water rights linked to the hydroelectric power production at the Shoshone Generating Station.
Marc Catlin says, “I am honored to be reappointed and reelected Vice-President of the Colorado River District Board. Now, more than ever, we must make sure that we are taking the correct steps for the future of Colorado and the Western United States. Projects like the Shoshone Water Right Preservation Project takes a step in that direction for our agriculture, recreation, and energy industries.”
The Colorado River Water Conservation District was established in 1937. The Colorado River District is made up of 15 counties, which are the primary water users of the Colorado River Basin. Each county appoints a member to represent that county’s interest on the board. The appointment process is completed by the Board of County Commissioners for each respected county. The mission of the Colorado River District is to: “lead in the protection, conservation, use, and development of the water resources of the Colorado River water basin for the welfare of the District, and to safeguard for Colorado and all waters of the Colorado River to which the state is entitled.”
