Representative Marc Catlin Honors Local Hero and Centurion
Denver, Colorado – Local “Rosie the Riveter” Betty Hayes turns 100 years old. A celebration at the Welcome Home Alliance for Veterans Resource Center in Montrose occurred on Thursday, October 10, 2024. As a celebratory surprise, Representative Marc Catlin presented Betty Hayes with the Congressional Gold Medal for her service to this country during World War Two. The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest honor a civilian can be awarded from the United States Government. This award comes eight decades after the “Rosies” efforts during the war.
Representative Catlin also presented our “Rosie” with a Colorado State Flag, which was flown over the State Capitol in honor of Betty Hayes’ turning 100, for service to the country, and her service to her community.
Representative Catlin says, “Our country, our state, and our local communities are ever grateful for our Betty “The Riveter” Hayes’ service. She is a hero amongst us. She heard our Nation’s call and went to the factory to help the American Cause. Anyone that gets the opportunity to meet Betty, sees the beaming pride and love that she has for this country. I am honored to have a chance to be a part of this ceremony.”
