Colorado House Minority Leadership Addresses Comments by Representative Woodrow
(Denver, CO - July 15, 2024) – In response to the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, the Minority Leadership in the Colorado House of Representatives expressed concern over Representative Woodrow's recent remarks. His tweet, which stated, "The last thing America needed was sympathy for the devil, but here we are," reflects a troubling tone in our political discourse.
“We must uphold the principle that political violence will not be tolerated and is a threat to democracy,” stated Minority Leader Pugliese. "Any elected official who downplays such serious incidents does a disservice to the people of Colorado."
Assistant Minority Leader Ty Winter added, “This incident underscores the need for respectful and constructive political dialogue. Republicans work hard to promote decorum and civility, and it's crucial that we continue to uphold these standards. Any attempt to diminish the seriousness of what occurred only deepens the divide and risks escalation.”
The remarks made by Rep. Woodrow regarding a serious event are concerning, and we urge Democrat leadership to address this matter appropriately. Constituents have made it clear that rhetoric endorsing violence has no place in our legislature. We trust that Majority leadership will respond accordingly to maintain the integrity of our political discourse.
