Committee Advances Bill to Bring Reliable, Affordable Energy to Rural Colorado

(Denver, CO – February 13, 2025) – Today, the House Energy and Environment Committee took a major step toward securing Colorado’s energy future by advancing a bipartisan bill to bring firm, reliable nuclear power to our state.

"Today is a new day for Colorado! This is a win for rural Colorado," said Assistant Minority Leader Ty Winter. "For too long, energy policy has ignored the needs of rural communities. Nuclear power offers affordable electricity, good-paying jobs, and a way to backfill lost oil and gas severance tax revenue that keeps our local services running."

As Colorado shuts down coal plants and forces unreliable energy mandates, communities like Pueblo, Craig, and Las Animas are left searching for solutions. This bill ensures that nuclear energy—proven, safe, and efficient—remains part of the conversation.

Winter also thanked Representative Valdez for his commitment to common sense energy policy. "I appreciate Representative Valdez for working across the aisle to deliver real energy solutions. His support shows that securing Colorado’s energy future should not be a partisan issue."

"We cannot afford to gamble on an energy future that leaves rural Colorado in the dark," Winter added. "This bill gives us a real path forward, and I look forward to fighting for it on the House floor."

The bill now moves to the full House for consideration.
