House Minority Office Response to Governor’s Budget Proposal
(Colorado State Capitol, November 1, 2023) -- Today, leaders of the House Minority Caucus responded to Governor Jared Polis FY 2024-2025 Budget Request.
“It is nice to see the Governor can add, I would like to see if he can subtract,” said House Minority Leader Mike Lynch (R-Wellington). “I would also like to remind the Governor that there is more to Colorado than just the Denver Metro Area. Coloradans across this state are experiencing a cost of living increase that is largely due to the housing market, yet this proposal only benefits select communities that are along RTD routes,” Lynch added.
“We appreciate the Governor addressing his constitutional requirement to fully fund public education,”noted Assistant House Minority Leader Rose Pugliese (R-Colorado Springs) “The state’s role in education, however, does not include dictating teacher pay. We need to be cautious about the state intruding on the powers of our local governments,” Pugliese added.
“With century old compacts being threatened, I was happy to see the proposal does continue to fight for Coloradans’ water rights and helps protect our water resources through funding the state’s legal team,” said Representative Rod Bockenfeld (R-Arapahoe County), the Ranking Member and only House Republican on the Joint Budget Committee.
“We look forward to the opportunity to work with Governor Polis on finding real solutions that benefit all Coloradans,” Rep. Lynch added.
