Statement from House Republicans on Governor Polis's Efficiency Initiative
(Denver, CO - December 12, 2024) – Governor Polis’s decision to rescind 208 executive orders is a necessary and long-overdue step toward addressing inefficiencies in state government. This long-delayed step comes after years of short-sighted policies that have contributed to Colorado’s economic decline, dropping from 5th to 41st in national rankings as seen in the University of Colorado’s Leeds School of Business Annual Colorado Business Economic Outlook.
While the country shifts toward a more fiscally conservative approach, this decision departs from the policy agenda that has burdened Colorado with over a $900 million deficit. Although he has recognized that many of these orders were redundant, ineffective, or harmful, he has yet to fully address any positive impact on Coloradans’ wallets, businesses, and opportunities. After his six years in office, he has only created more red tape, and families and businesses continue to struggle.
For far too long, Coloradans have faced rising costs of living and a regulatory environment that restricts business growth and drives opportunities away. The Governor’s delayed response, as highlighted in the Colorado Chamber of Commerce report, has resulted in nearly 200,000 redundant regulations that create unnecessary obstacles for businesses.
"It is about time the Governor recognized that Colorado cannot thrive under the weight of excessive regulation and overspending," said Minority Leader Rose Pugliese. "This is a step in the right direction, but it falls short of undoing the damage caused by policies that have made it increasingly unaffordable for Coloradans to live in our state."
House Republicans are committed to leading with real solutions to make Colorado affordable again, reduce red tape, and create an environment where families and businesses can succeed.
