Representative Holtorf Celebrates the Signing of Women Veterans Appreciation Day Bill

(Denver, CO - June 5, 2024) - Representative Richard Holtorf, a proud veteran, celebrated the signing of HB24-1236, a bill that establishes June 12th as "Women Veterans Appreciation Day," an observed state holiday dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifices of women in the military.

"As a veteran myself and a commander of troops through the battalion command level, I’ve seen the remarkable contributions of women in the Army," said Holtorf. "This bill is a testament to their dedication and the unique challenges they face. It's about time we gave them the recognition they deserve."

The newly signed bill acknowledges the growing role of women in the military, who now make up approximately 16% of the active-duty force in the United States. By setting aside June 12th as a special day, this bill aims to not only honor past and present women veterans but also inspire future generations of women to pursue serving their country in the Armed Forces.

Holtorf emphasized the importance of this recognition, stating, "This day isn’t just about reflecting on the past. It’s about looking to the future and showing young women that they too can serve our nation with honor and distinction. This day will highlight the distinct and invaluable role women have played and continue to play in our military," Rep. Holtorf added.

Representative Holtorf concluded, "I would like to honor past and present women veterans and also inspire future generations of women to serve their country in the armed forces."
